Staff Fullstack Software Engineer, Core Performance

Responsibilities

• Drive performance improvement on the Dropbox web application by profiling React surfaces, producing flame graphs and heat maps, identifying high-impact opportunities, and shipping measurable improvements.
• Lead the performance initiative across iOS, Android, and desktop by coordinating with internal platform experts—setting strategy, defining measurement standards, and driving execution.
• Take performance improvements end-to-end: from measurement, root-cause analysis, to shipped code changes and validation in production telemetry.
• Build and own measurement, instrumentation, and regression-detection systems used by engineering teams.
• Write production code primarily in JavaScript and React, with backend work in Python and Go.
• Set engineering standards for performance work and mentor engineers on profiling, measurement methodology, and system design.
• Apply AI tooling to performance work and lead AI-assisted workflow optimization to improve engineering productivity.
• Influence cross-org roadmaps and architectural decisions to prioritize performance as a core attribute.

Requirements

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field involving coding or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 12 years of experience as a software engineer with 3+ years as a Senior engineer.
• Hands-on experience driving measurable performance improvements in production web applications, including profiling JavaScript and React surfaces, root-cause analysis, and shipping fixes.
• Experience using AI tooling to accelerate performance work, including applying LLMs and AI-assisted workflows.
• Experience optimizing AI-assisted engineering workflows to improve productivity.
• Production experience with backend services in Python or Go supporting consumer-facing surfaces.
• Experience leading technical strategy on cross-cutting initiatives, including writing design docs, defining architecture, and driving execution.
• Experience working on consumer user-facing products and shipping changes impacting customer metrics.
• Strong communication skills and experience influencing roadmaps and decisions outside direct reporting lines.
