Director, Shopify Engineering

Ritual is a personal health brand focused on science-backed supplements and wellness products, expanding into new categories with a team of over 120 professionals. They are venture-backed and based in Los Angeles.

Location: Los Angeles, CA, USA

Salary: $183K – $220K

Responsibilities

• Own the Shopify platform end to end, including catalog setup, store configuration, app stack, subscriptions, and integrations.
• Lead subscription commerce configuration through Recharge.
• Build, maintain, and evolve integrations connecting Shopify with business systems.
• Manage and improve the Shopify app ecosystem.
• Guide Shopify theme development and collaborate on storefront content.
• Partner with marketing teams on pixels, conversion tracking, and CRM integrations.
• Connect teams across the business through the platform, ensuring reliable data flows.
• Champion web accessibility for ritual.com, maintaining WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
• Help lead an AI-native development practice using modern AI tools.
• Facilitate sprint cycles, manage capacity, and foster accountability.
• Lead, hire, and develop the engineering and QA organization.
• Build and manage vendor and partner relationships.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years of Shopify platform experience.
• Proven back-end/platform ownership with Shopify APIs, webhooks, and custom apps.
• Experience integrating Shopify with operational and financial systems.
• Strong Liquid theme development fluency.
• Experience supporting growth and retention marketing technically.
• Comfort operating as the technical hub for multiple non-technical teams.
• 5+ years of engineering management experience.
• Strong agile fundamentals.
