Insurance Examiner-In-Charge (Home Based, VT, US)

The Examiner-in-Charge (EIC) for the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation's Captive Insurance Division oversees examinations and ongoing oversight of Vermont domiciled captive insurance companies. The role involves leading a team in evaluating operations, corporate governance, IT systems, internal controls, financial reporting, and compliance, with responsibilities including research, special projects, and surveillance.

Location: Vermont, USA

Salary: $31.54–$49.45 per hour (effective July 12, 2026)

Responsibilities

• Lead examinations and oversight of captive insurance companies.
• Evaluate corporate governance, strategy, business plans, IT systems, internal controls, financial reporting, and compliance.
• Conduct research and special projects.
• Perform annual and quarterly surveillance of a portfolio of companies.

Requirements

• Graduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field with 2+ years of experience in accounting, auditing, or financial examination, including 2+ years involving insurance operations and supervisory responsibilities.
• OR Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of experience in accounting, auditing, or financial examination, including 2+ years involving insurance operations and supervisory responsibilities.
• OR One year as an Insurance Examiner III.

Additional Information
