Director Of Cloud Operations

Firstup is seeking a Director of Cloud Operations to lead and improve their cloud infrastructure and operational practices for a globally distributed SaaS platform, ensuring system reliability, scalability, and efficiency across AWS regions in the US and Europe.

Location: Remote - US

Salary: $200,000–$228,000

Responsibilities

• Own the availability, performance, and resilience of the multi-region AWS platform.
• Drive improvements in system reliability through SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, and proactive engineering practices.
• Lead efforts to reduce MTTR and improve incident response effectiveness.
• Guide architecture decisions for microservices, Kubernetes (EKS), and serverless workloads.
• Advance observability strategy using Datadog.
• Establish and refine incident management practices.
• Elevate operational standards through automation, standardization, and best practices.
• Drive cost optimization initiatives across AWS environments.
• Leverage AI and automation to improve operational efficiency.
• Continuously improve CI/CD pipelines (CircleCI) and infrastructure-as-code practices (Terraform).
• Lead, mentor, and support a distributed team of CloudOps engineers.
• Foster a culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement.
• Support stability for existing customers while maintaining operational boundaries.

Requirements

• 10+ years in cloud infrastructure, SRE, or DevOps roles.
• 3+ years leading CloudOps/SRE teams.
• Proven track record of platform transformations in SaaS.
• Experience operating multi-region, customer-facing systems at scale.
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS, Kubernetes (EKS), Terraform, CircleCI, Datadog.
• Solid understanding of microservices and distributed systems.
• Familiarity with serverless architectures.
• Deep experience with incident management, on-call operations, and reliability engineering.
• Strong understanding of SLO/SLI frameworks, monitoring, and performance optimization.

Additional Information
