Senior Manager, Defense Public Relations

Public relations specialist supporting the defense portfolio of RTX, focusing on strategic media campaigns, relationship building with defense media, crisis management, and cross-unit storytelling.

Location: Remote (US)

Salary: $132,400–$251,600/yr

Responsibilities

• Support public relations activities within RTX's Defense portfolio across multiple businesses.
• Create and execute strategic PR and media plans aligned with business priorities.
• Engage with and pitch to defense and niche trade media.
• Develop relationships with reporters and identify story ideas.
• Draft briefing documents, press releases, and manage crisis communications.
• Secure earned media and ensure proper communication of campaign messages.
• Manage media engagements including interviews, press briefings, and Q&A sessions.
• Train leaders and spokespeople for media engagements.
• Connect RTX business units and campaigns to tell a holistic story.
• Use data and analytics to measure and improve PR efforts.
• Collaborate with communication teams and develop compelling narratives.
• Manage projects to ensure timely delivery.

Requirements

• University Degree or equivalent experience with minimum 10 years relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree with minimum 7 years experience.
• Knowledge of the aerospace and defense industry.
• Exceptional written, verbal, and social communication skills.
• Interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
• Attention to detail, sense of urgency, positive attitude.
• Strong executive presence and experience with executive coaching.
• Ability to interface effectively with all levels of employees and external organizations.
• Experience working in cross-functional teams.
• Ability to work independently, manage time, organize, and prioritize.
• Adaptability to change.
• Ability to handle multiple projects.
• Strong understanding of AP writing style.
