Regional Director, Central and South Asia

WaterConnect is seeking a regional infrastructure leader to develop and execute water supply and sanitation projects in Central and South Asia, focusing on public-private partnerships and private industrial projects. The role involves originating, structuring, and advancing bankable infrastructure investments, working with stakeholders to attract private capital, and managing project development and portfolio growth.
Location: Regionally in Central and South Asia, with potential travel up to 20%.
Responsibilities
- Identify and develop a pipeline of bankable WSS infrastructure opportunities suitable for private investment.
- Develop and maintain relationships with private developers, technology providers, utilities, and investors.
- Screen and due diligence potential partners and opportunities.
- Prepare due diligence reports and present to approval committee.
- Negotiate term sheets and development agreements.
- Support WaterConnect project management team to oversee project development.
- Support engagement and management of third-party service providers and vendors.
- Engage with co-developers, offtakers, investors, regulators.
- Ensure accurate, timely reporting on project progress, risks, and KPIs.
- Manage local stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve WSS infrastructure policy and regulations.
- Contribute to strategic projects of WaterConnect and the larger group.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and/or equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years of experience in origination, development, structuring, financing, or advisory of water or infrastructure projects in South and Central Asia.
- Proven track record in business development, originating opportunities, structuring partnerships, and cultivating relationships.
- Knowledge of private sector participation in water supply and sanitation, including PPP structures.
- Experience in development, financing, or implementation of infrastructure projects, with understanding of project lifecycle.
- Experience in preparing projects for financial close and engaging with lenders, investors, and advisors.
- Strong understanding of infrastructure policy and regulations in emerging markets.
- Understanding of infrastructure investor requirements, project finance, risk allocation, and diligence.
- Self-driven, proactive problem-solver.
- Comfort working in a small, virtual team.
- Multi-country experience in Central or South Asia.
- Commitment to social and environmental impact.
- Proficient in English.
