The Animal Legal Defense Fund is seeking a Criminal Justice Program Animal Cruelty Case Specialist to provide operational and forensic support on criminal animal cruelty cases, working with prosecutors, law enforcement, veterinarians, and animal rescues to ensure justice for animal victims.

Location: Remote (U.S. Based)

Salary: $71,509–$79,036/yr (depending on location)

Responsibilities

• Receive reports of animal cruelty and requests for case assistance.
• Analyze and recommend cases for pursuit, gather relevant facts, and identify cases warranting further investigation.
• Generate and categorize cases, assign to staff, and ensure accurate record keeping.
• Conduct internet research on cases, prepare materials for meetings and court proceedings.
• Follow up on case outcomes, manage grant processing for case-related expenses.
• Inform and assist law enforcement and other stakeholders in case investigations.
• Participate in deployment to crime scenes and rescues, assist with evidence collection and scene processing.
• Support the CJP Case Response Unit.
• Build relationships with prosecutors, law enforcement, veterinarians, and rescues for forensic and investigative support.
• Conduct outreach and training presentations for various disciplines.
• Maintain internal relationships and act as a liaison to other programs.
• Create and share information about case work and outcomes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or 5 years equivalent work experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in enforcement, animal cruelty response, or criminal case management.
• Veterinary forensics or animal cruelty enforcement expertise, with related certifications.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
• Excellent organizational, prioritization, and communication skills.
• Comfort speaking publicly.
• Ability to work under stress and maintain composure.
• Willingness to travel frequently (5-7 events per year).
