SLR Consulting (Canada) is a multidisciplinary environmental and engineering consulting firm delivering environmental and sustainability services across Canada. They are seeking an Underwater Acoustics Senior Consultant to support their global Acoustics and Vibration team.
Location: Canada
Salary: $85,000 - $100,000
Responsibilities
- Leading underwater acoustics modelling and assessment for various projects including coastal, offshore, and marine construction.
- Developing sound propagation models, reviewing source data, and supporting monitoring and mitigation strategies.
- Supporting environmental assessments, permitting, and stakeholder/regulator responses.
- Developing and running underwater sound propagation and exposure models.
- Supporting or leading source characterization and data interpretation.
- Planning and designing underwater noise monitoring campaigns.
- Streamlining workflows for modelling, data processing, and reporting.
- Preparing technical reports and presentations for environmental assessments and peer review.
- Coordinating with project managers on schedules and budgets.
- Mentoring less experienced team members.
- Contributing to business development and technical thought leadership.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of consulting experience in underwater acoustics supporting environmental assessments, permitting, and project approvals.
- Degree in engineering, physics, acoustics, ocean engineering, marine science, or related field; Master’s preferred.
- Professional registration (P.Eng. in Canada, PE in the US, or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of underwater sound measurement, modelling, and evaluation.
- Understanding of marine fauna behavior and impact assessment frameworks.
- Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, GIS (nice to have), and Microsoft 365 tools.
- Experience with underwater acoustics modelling tools and numerical methods.
- Experience supporting underwater acoustic measurement and monitoring programs.
- Ability to prepare clear technical reports and support mitigation and monitoring plans.
- Client engagement skills and ability to work collaboratively.
