Technical Solutions Engineer/Web Developer

Seeking a Technical Solutions Engineer / Web Application Developer to design, develop, and support web applications, data solutions, and AI workflows within a consulting environment. The role is hands-on, combining web engineering, database development, and AI integration to solve business problems.

Location: Remote

Salary: $42/hr–$54/hr

Responsibilities

• Design, build, enhance, and maintain internal and client-facing web applications
• Own application features across the full lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and support
• Implement user workflows, data validation, audit tracking, and role-based access controls
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across front-end, back-end, and database layers
• Design, implement, and maintain relational databases supporting application workflows, reporting, and audit requirements
• Define and manage database schemas, relationships, constraints, and documentation
• Translate business processes and reporting needs into structured, maintainable data models
• Manage schema evolution and controlled data changes as applications mature
• Design and support backend data models for KPI dashboards, reporting, and trend analysis
• Translate incomplete, inconsistent, or evolving client and operational data into validated datasets
• Support data ingestion, validation, and update processes
• Build and maintain dashboards used by leadership and clients
• Integrate AI-assisted capabilities into production applications
• Implement prompt templates, structured inputs, validation rules, and guardrails for AI
• Contribute to automation and AI experimentation
• Partner with stakeholders to clarify requirements and recommend solutions
• Participate in working sessions, training, and walkthroughs
• Identify risks, assumptions, and gaps in requirements
• Communicate technical concepts clearly
• Create and maintain technical documentation, schemas, data dictionaries, templates, architecture diagrams
• Monitor application performance and data pipelines
• Support user access and permissions
• Contribute to system improvements
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of JavaScript-based web applications
• Experience designing backend logic and relational databases
• Working knowledge of SQL, APIs, web services
• Experience with data modeling and validation using Excel, CSV, SharePoint
• Experience integrating AI capabilities with structured prompts and guardrails
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills

Additional Information

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience
• 3-5 years of experience in web development, solutions engineering, or related roles
• Experience with AI tools or automation preferred
• Experience with cloud platforms and deployment practices preferred
• Compensation range: $42/hr–$54/hr
• This role is in the Sacramento public-sector consulting market, with opportunities for growth and transition within KAIP.
