Senior Staff AI & Agentic Systems Engineer

Mozilla is building a new browser infrastructure platform for the next generation of web automation. They are looking for an experienced Staff Engineer to lead the architectural design and implementation of AI agent frameworks and workflows in a fast-moving, early-stage team.

Responsibilities

• Architect Agentic Systems from Zero: Design and deploy production-grade multi-agent frameworks, complex orchestration layers, and custom AI developer tooling.
• Balance Speed and Scale: Navigate the tension between rapid prototyping and long-term sustainability, knowing when to validate a concept and when to establish solid architectural foundations.
• Orchestrate LLM Workflows: Navigate and integrate various commercial and open-source large language models, selecting and optimizing models for specific agentic behaviors.
• Accelerate with AI Tooling: Lead by example using advanced AI coding tools to maximize velocity and establish best practices.
• Drive Evaluation and Performance: Implement frameworks for benchmarking, prompt engineering, and evaluating agent reliability, latency, and accuracy.
• Collaborative Technical Leadership: Set engineering standards, mentor engineers, and bridge research and product.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, especially in fast-paced environments with complex systems.
• Proven ability to judge technical debt, ship MVPs quickly, and design scalable APIs.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience building autonomous workflows, custom tools, and agentic systems.
• Deep familiarity with diverse LLMs and orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen).
• Prior startup experience, comfortable with ambiguity, pivoting, and execution focus.
• Proficiency in building software with AI coding tools (e.g., Cursor, Copilot).
• Strong skills in Python or Go, with understanding of distributed backend systems.
