Senior Power Systems Engineer - Team Lead - Modeling & Analytics

ICF is seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to lead a team and develop advanced power systems modeling and analytics for electric utility solutions. The role involves managing projects, mentoring engineers, and performing technical analyses in power engineering.

Salary: $144,381.00 - $245,448.00

Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing a small team in power systems modeling and analytics for utility clients
  • Mentoring and training less experienced engineers in power engineering theories and principles
  • Improving engineering, technical, and professional knowledge and skills, and overall team performance
  • Forecasting, tracking hours, budgeting, scheduling meetings, delegating tasks
  • Interacting with prospective clients to demonstrate expertise and attract new business
  • Developing scopes of work, project timelines, and budget estimates
  • Participating in weekly meetings with clients to deliver project status updates
  • Creating, revising, and maintaining transmission short circuit models in programs like CAPE and ASPEN
  • Creating, revising, and maintaining transmission power flow models in programs like PSSE and PSCAD
  • Creating, revising, and maintaining distribution system modeling in programs like CYME, Synergi, and WindMil
  • Performing Arc Flash analysis of facilities
  • Analyzing transmission line modeling based on LiDAR and 3D models in programs like PLS-CADD
  • Performing voltage imbalance analysis in programs like PSCAD
  • Calculating thermal ampacity ratings according to standards such as FAC-008, FERC-881, and IEEE standards
  • Writing technical reports summarizing analysis findings
  • Developing automation scripts using Python, SQL, and VBA

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in electrical engineering theories and principles, including transmission and distribution system modeling, short circuit and power flow analysis, arc flash hazard calculations, voltage imbalance studies, and thermal ampacity ratings
  • 5+ years of experience working at an electric utility, such as an investor-owned utility, municipal utility, or electric cooperative
