Scientific Computing Specialist

RCH Solutions is seeking an HPC Engineer to work closely with customer stakeholders, scientists, and IT professionals to deliver Compute at Scale and support scientific initiatives. The role involves developing, evolving, and administering HPC platforms, supporting scientific applications, workflows, and infrastructure on-prem and in the cloud.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with cross-discipline team members and customers to deliver HPC and peripheral Compute at Scale services.
  • Supporting internal and customer Architecture and Design efforts.
  • Supporting customers with their workflow pipelines (advisory and hands-on).
  • Documenting computational assets.
  • Supporting AWS & GCP Cloud applications, migrations, and modernization.
  • CloudOps / IaC for platform management.
  • Setup and configuration of cloud infrastructure.
  • Ensuring system compliance with security standards.
  • Transition support for modernized services.
  • Troubleshooting operational issues.
  • Providing training/mentorship for junior team members.
  • Escalation point on multiple engagements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience administering HPC clusters and systems.
  • Experience with SLURM and Grid Engine preferred.
  • 5+ years in Solution Architecture or Cloud Infrastructure Deployment.
  • Experience developing or administering compute solutions for Scientific / Research IT, preferably Life Sciences.
  • Experience with POSIT products.
  • Experience developing scientific workflows using Nextflow.
  • Command-line system administration experience.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, LDAP, NFS, SMB.
  • Building and troubleshooting Linux applications.
  • Linux OS installation and tuning.
  • Linux package management.
  • Intermediate networking knowledge.
  • Experience with scripting, automation, and configuration tools (Ansible, Terraform, Cloud Formation).
  • Experience with Scientific / Research applications.
  • Strong time-management and communication skills.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team.
