Request for Proposals: Website Developer

Indigenous Climate Action (ICA) is seeking proposals from qualified web designers and developers to redesign and develop their organizational website, which will serve as a primary platform for storytelling, education, campaigns, research, fundraising, and community engagement.

Responsibilities

• Conduct meetings with ICA staff and key stakeholders
• Review existing website structure and digital assets
• Assess audience needs and user journeys
• Provide recommendations for site architecture and platform improvements
• Identify opportunities for improved accessibility, storytelling, and engagement
• Information architecture and sitemap development
• User experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design
• Responsive website development across desktop and mobile devices
• Development using a flexible and maintainable CMS
• Template creation for key page types
• Integration of ICA branding and visual identity
• SEO and performance optimization
• Analytics integration
• Accessibility compliance implementation
• Security implementation and best practices
• Content migration from Squarespace including blog content, reports, organizational resources, and campaign pages
• Outline approach to content migration, SEO preservation, and content organization
• Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA standards, accessible navigation, screen reader compatibility, appropriate contrast and typography, and cross-device/browser testing
• Implement security best practices, hosting recommendations, backup and recovery, CMS maintenance, performance optimization, and sustainability
• Outline post-launch support, maintenance, staff training, and documentation
• Follow project timeline from July to October 2026

Requirements

• Experience in web design and development, especially for nonprofit or mission-driven organizations
• Experience working with Indigenous organizations or communities preferred
• Strong understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA)
• Technical expertise in CMS development, security, SEO, and performance optimization
• Ability to provide ongoing support and maintenance
