Principal Engineer - Data Center

The role involves leading the design, implementation, and support of electrical systems for hyperscale data centers, ensuring safety, efficiency, and uptime. It is suited for experienced electrical engineers with a focus on mission-critical infrastructure.

Location: Remote (US or Canada)

Responsibilities

• Engineer medium‑ and low‑voltage power distribution, UPS and generator backup, and emergency power systems for high‑density loads.
• Produce and review one‑line diagrams, schematics, Bills of Materials, and installation drawings.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations, including NEC and IEC standards.
• Work closely with mechanical, civil, controls, and IT teams to define project requirements, design criteria, and budgets.
• Provide technical leadership during design reviews, value‑engineering sessions, factory acceptance tests (FAT), and on‑site inspections.
• Analyze electrical systems to identify and resolve issues, including load balancing, capacity planning, and power consumption optimization.
• Stay up-to-date with advancements in data center technologies, and recommend new technologies to improve the reliability and efficiency of data center infrastructure.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering plus 10+ years of progressive experience in data‑center or other mission‑critical electrical design; active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license. Master is preferred.
• Deep knowledge of power‑distribution architecture, UPS/generator systems, grounding/bonding, and protective‑device coordination for ≥ 20 MW facilities.
• Demonstrated success delivering data‑center projects from concept through commissioning, including field construction support.
• Knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations, including NEC and IEC standards
