A full-time remote role for a Technical Systems Designer specializing in game development, focusing on core systems, gameplay mechanics, and RPG features for a sci-fi remake project using Unreal Engine 5.
Location: Remote
Responsibilities
- Ownership of player progression, combat abilities, resource scarcity, and core RPG systems.
- Design and prototype puzzles and minigames.
- Assist the designs of enemy behaviors and auxiliary game systems.
- Implement gameplay features directly in-editor using Blueprint scripting.
- Analyze player-facing mechanics for clarity, balance, and scalability.
- Troubleshoot and iterate on design-owned systems, identifying performance, UX, or logic issues.
- Maintain high standards of asset organization, naming conventions, versioning, and documentation.
- Collaborate with team members and provide constructive criticism.
- Respond well to feedback and iterate on assets and systems.
- Be self-motivated, adaptable, and willing to learn new skills.
Requirements
- Experience designing complex RPG systems and player perks and abilities.
- Experience as a Technical Designer, Systems Designer, Gameplay Designer, or similar role.
- Strong problem-solving skills with debugging, optimizing, and refining design logic.
- Experience working on FPS, immersive sim, roguelike, or systems-heavy action titles.
- Shipped at least 1 AA+ game.
- Eager to take ownership over features and systems.
Additional Information
- This role reports directly to the Project Lead, Lead Designer, and Producer.
- The role involves liaising with Design, Engineering, Animation, Audio, and QA teams.
- The team is looking for highly self-accountable individuals with an 'Indie dev' mindset.
- The project is a sci-fi remake using Unreal Engine 5.
- The team values passion for significant games and media like Sci-Fi and Horror.
