ACLED is a disaggregated data collection, analysis, and crisis mapping institution that informs journalism, academic research, and public discourse on conflict through real-time data and analysis on political violence and protest globally.
Location: Remote
Salary: 20 USD/hour
Responsibilities
- Assist in the collection, review, and management of political violence and protest data across Colombia and/or Brazil.
- Review news, international organization, NGO, and security reports on assigned countries.
- Record incidents of political violence into an Excel template.
- Code events to provide holistic coverage of current political violence, ranging from protests to battles.
Requirements
- University degree in international relations, political science, conflict studies, peacebuilding, international development, or related field.
- Familiarity with Excel.
- Fluency in English.
- Fluency in Portuguese and/or Spanish.
- Experience conducting desk-based research.
- Experience working to deadlines with limited supervision.
- High attention to detail and ability to incorporate feedback.
- Research focus or professional experience in conflict research or peace-building in South America, especially Colombia and/or Brazil.
- Familiarity with conflict dynamics and relevant actors in Colombia, Brazil, and South America.
- Access to a computer, reliable internet, email, and Microsoft Office.

Additional Information
- This opportunity involves working with conflict-related media and reading about violent events.
- Candidates will undergo training and exercises; only those meeting the required level will be retained as Researchers.
- This is an entry-level, independent consultant role, approximately 20 hours per week.
- Work is fully remote, from any location with reliable internet.
