Senior Backend Engineer (Elixir)

Salary: $53,300—$119,850 USD per year

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of major team-scoped projects for Remote's HR and Payroll products.
• Participate in product work: provide feedback, suggest solutions, and use expertise to improve products.
• Maintain understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Provide feedback on code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and solve technical and business issues.
• Participate in support rotations, hiring, RFC discussions, etc.
• Mentor and guide other engineers.
• Investigate, propose, and implement platform improvements.
• Design interfaces with performance, accessibility, and API considerations.
• Redesign engineering workflows with autonomous agents as the default execution layer.
• Propose and operationalize agentic workflows end-to-end.
• Build reusable agentic workflows and primitives.
• Use verification loops to ensure correctness, security, reliability, and scalability.

Requirements

• Strong engineering fundamentals with a track record of shipping secure, reliable, and scalable systems.
• Experience designing or adopting agentic/automation workflows and improving them.
• Ability to define specs, break down plans, verify, and ensure quality.
• Experience with Postgres or similar databases.
• Experience with CI/CD tools (GitLab, Github, Jenkins, etc.).
• Demonstrates strong automation and AI capabilities and fluency.
