Principal Software Engineer, AI Enterprise Engineering

The AI Operations & Enablement team at Bentley Systems is leading the company's internal AI transformation, focusing on building core platforms, driving technical strategy, and mentoring engineers to embed AI across the organization.

Location: Remote (US)

Responsibilities

• Lead the engineering effort across a blended team, including internal engineers, external consultants, and third-party vendors, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Define and own the long-term architectural vision and strategy for enterprise AI platforms, ensuring solutions are scalable, resilient, and secure.
• Own the full lifecycle of technology partnerships and strategy, including build-vs-buy analyses, RFPs, vendor negotiations, and evaluating new technologies.
• Create well-designed, testable, and efficient code, championing advanced engineering practices like agent-driven development, test-first approaches, and secure coding.
• Partner with global product teams and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical requirements.
• Architect unified solutions and secure integrations, managing complex projects and escalations.
• Implement comprehensive testing and architect an operating model to maintain high velocity.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 4 years in a technical leadership, staff, or principal engineer role.
• Extensive experience leading hybrid software engineering teams, managing external vendors.
• Proven expertise in architecting, designing, and building large-scale, complex, distributed systems.
• Deep expertise in object-oriented programming languages such as Python, Java, or C#.
• Extensive experience with cloud computing platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
