Outpatient Coder

The role involves reviewing clinical documentation and diagnostic results to assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for billing, reporting, research, and compliance. Under supervision, the coder ensures accurate coding according to official guidelines, optimizes reimbursement, and resolves billing errors.

Salary: $20.75 - $29.50

Responsibilities

• Review provider documentation to identify and assign diagnoses and surgical procedure or treatment codes using ICD-10-CM and CPT codes.
• Meet departmental productivity and accuracy standards.
• Utilize coding systems such as Care Connect, UDS, and Clintegrity.
• Formulate compliant coding queries for unclear documentation.
• Enter and update data in various systems.
• Assist customers regarding documentation, coding, reimbursement, and quality review.
• Assign discharge disposition and modifiers based on guidelines.
• Analyze clinical documentation for charge capture.
• Use reports to identify targeted accounts and ensure charges are current.
• Correct billing errors identified through audits.
• Attend meetings and training sessions.
• Ensure timely reporting for external regulations.

Requirements

• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), CCS-P, CPC, CPC-H, CMC, RHIT/RHIA, RCC, CCA, COC, CIC, CRC, CPC-P, or other AAPC certifications.
• RHIT eligible candidates who sit for the exam within one year of hire.
• CPC certification must be obtained within 24 months if holding CPC-A at hire or 36 months if obtained after employment.
• Homecare Diagnosis Coding Specialist (HCS-D) certification required within 16 months for homecare roles.
