Responsibilities
- Design and own the qualification criteria for legal escalation of accounts with defiance balances.
- Monitor the legal escalation pipeline and review exceptions.
- Review and approve settlement letter content and deficiency collection scripts.
- Own legal and compliance reporting, prepare quarterly updates, and escalate issues.
- Complete FDCPA and UDAAP review of consumer-facing components.
- Build and maintain a state-by-state legal viability map for deficiency collections.
- Ensure compliance with bankruptcy filings, SCRA, and respond to regulatory inquiries.
- Vet third-party collection agencies, oversee vendor compliance, and manage outside counsel relationships.
- Write and maintain policies and procedures for the collections program.
- Manage active litigation, identify process gaps, and serve as a legal resource for staff.
- Hire and develop team members as the program grows.
Requirements
- 5+ years in legal operations, compliance, or collections oversight in consumer lending or auto finance.
- Experience in non-prime or subprime auto lending.
- Knowledge of FDCPA, UDAAP, and state consumer laws.
- Experience managing bankruptcy filings and SCRA compliance.
- Experience managing outside counsel relationships.
- Understanding of deficiency recovery operations.
