Lead Instructional Designer

Location: Remote (US)

Salary: $100,000 - $182,000/year

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of a learning content strategy for several topic areas that aligns with business objectives.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand product direction and translate it into impactful content plans.
• Prepare realistic content plans collaboratively with other content creators.
• Design and implement scalable, flexible, and reusable content for developers.
• Determine the 'right content to build', including delivery method and effort, based on competency requirements in alignment with stakeholder guidance.
• Develop curriculum for one or more applications and services following instructional design best practices.
• Design and develop a variety of learning materials, including interactive tutorials/practical labs, videos, assessments, micro-learning modules, and e-learning courses.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure content aligns with brand standards and visual experience goals.
• Partner with writers, product managers, engineers, professional services teams, and other subject matter experts to understand technical features and align learning objectives with business goals.
• Conduct regular audits to identify and address content gaps or inconsistencies.
• Seek and incorporate input from Subject Matter Experts, Product Managers, and Learners.
• Analyze data to improve training experience, identify learner pain points, and iterate on course effectiveness and engagement.
• Provide guidance to junior instructional designers, ensuring best practices are followed in learning experience design and development.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, education, technical writing, or a related field, with 5-8 years of experience developing highly technical training content.
• Proven experience designing and delivering technical training for developer and engineer audiences on enterprise software or SaaS applications.
• Strong background in troubleshooting complex systems, reading/debugging code, and understanding web application development and cloud platform tooling.
• Practical experience leveraging AI tools (e.g., Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude) to accelerate content development and research.
• Self-starter mentality with a passion for continuous learning and ability to work independently.
• Experience using instructional design principles.
• Ability to gather information from subject matter experts and learn by experimenting.
• Excellent written, verbal communication, and collaboration skills.
• Strategic thinker with a creative approach to content development.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with agile methodologies and project management tools such as JIRA.
